A story only a mother could like...

Last week I decided it was time to do some serious potty training with Colby. We have been trying to talk him into it for months, but he never seemed interested. It was a long process getting Ethan potty trained, so I was not looking forward to going through it again, but I thought having Colby trained sometime in his life was a good idea. Zak and I got ourselves all pumped up, and were ready to go. We decided to just go cold turkey--no more diapers, no pull-ups, no turning back. We figured we would be cleaning up a lot of messes, and be stuck at the house for about a week, but we had to just do it.
On Tuesday, I got rid of the few diapers we had left, so when Colby wanted a diaper change later, I took him in there and showed him they we gone. He was a little confused, and then he actually told me he should probably just wear underwear. We put some on him, and told him he needed to use the potty so he could keep his pants dry, and then we sat back and waited for the inevitible accidents to happen as he got the hang of it. Or not. Colby was a champ! He has been clean and dry, day and night, since! He got the hang of it so quick, and he is excited to be a "big boy". We're so proud of him, and so glad it was an easy process this time! And Zak is really glad he does not have to clean any pee out of the carpet.

Blogging Break

I've been neglecting this poor little blog. Sorry to all you followers (Larissa) for making you miss out on the exciting life of the Prices .

Here's some catch-up:

We started getting some fun smiles from Sadie at the beginning of this month. She will smile for just about anyone, but saves some of her best ones for her dad.

Big Brother Colby loves to make her smile whenever he can, and he'll do whatever he decides is going to make her happy, like bring her every stuffed animal he can find!

We found out that shots do not make her smile. She did not like her two month appointment so much! But we did find out that she is getting big! She is in the 75% for height and 50% for weight. I guess we don't need to worry about her being too small anymore!

Last week Colby was running a fever for a few days. I kept trying to keep him away from Sadie, but that was not so easy. He tells me that she is his best buddy (at least while Ethan is at school), so he kept trying to stay close to her whenever he could. When I got out of the shower one day, this is what I found:
Poor guy was all tuckered out, but he still wouldn't leave his sister!

We had my mom, the Elams, and Nate and James come over to dye and hunt eggs on the Saturday before Easter. The kids had so much fun. Thanks to Nana for providing the candy and Nate and James for bringing some AWESOME toys (not really) to put in the plastic eggs.

And I'll throw in one more of these cute smiles. Maybe you are not impressed, but I can't get enough of her cute grin and her little dimple!

Our little blessing

We blessed our little Sadie on Sunday. It was a beautiful day with lots of family members and friends. Sadie looked so cute in the dress and bonnet her Great Aunt Becky made for her.

We really are blessed to have this beautiful baby in our home. She has been so fun and is helping us remember to slow down and enjoy our kids when they are so little. We love you Sadie Brooke!

Mediocrity Tag

My sister responded to this post by her friend, and then forced me to do it. I'm sure you will all be so surprised to see imperfections from the Price household....

The challenge:

"Enough already! I sit down for a walk down acquaintance lane, and while perusing through the blogs of friends and family I'm accosted with massive amounts of over-achieving. It's not a true example of historic accuracy. Where are the TV watching, preservative eating, unvacuumed lives of my peeps? So TAG!!!! I challenge all who read this plea, to put down their craft projects, and t-ball trophies---just for a few hours, and let me see the human side of your lives. I'm not asking for a video account of you losing your temper after one of your 45 sons pees in the garbage can. Maybe just a picture of an unmade bed, or a mole with hair growing out of it. ---Am I the only one who occasionally feels a little green with envy after a half-hour of blog surfing?"

So here goes. First, a little explanation. Today is day 2 of Spring Break for Ethan. With the weekend and yesterday, we have had 3 full days of brotherly bonding, which usually leads to brotherly battles. I was fed up. I have pretty much banished them to the backyard today. So except for the occasional (as in every 5 minutes) fight I have to break up out there, I have had peace and quiet in my house, which means the number of toys on the floor today is about a 10th of the usual amount.

Here's a little look around:

This is the state of the desk that I am sitting at as I waste time on the computer.

This is the living room. Notice the cups and bowls. Those are from breakfast when I gave the boys dry cold cereal and chocolate milk as they watched PBS kids and I went back to bed with Sadie. (And yes, I still have my 5-year-old drink out of a sippy cup when he's on the carpet). Also, the Flubber case from when I let them watch a movie after lunch. 2 cartoons and a movie today. We're doing good.

And here is lunch still waiting to be cleaned up. That was only 3 hours ago.

3 loads of laundry in my room. It was on the couch, but I moved it to my room when we had friends come over Sunday night. It is still not folded. Behind the pile are the things I took down off our walls when we rearranged our room 2 months ago. They have not yet been put back up.

Two more loads of laundry. If you count the load that is waiting in the dryer, I have 6 loads of laundry to be folded. Yikes.

Here's Ethan. He's had a runny nose for the last few days and since he wipes it with his hands after playing in the dirt, he ends up with a nasty looking upper lip.
And Colby. He's wearing a ninja turtle shirt that his nice Aunt Kerri found for him for $0.34. He loves it. I hate it. I try to hide it from him, but he still requests it. This is his third time wearing it and he just got it 2 weeks ago. I do have to admit it is a good one for Saint Patty's day since it is a "mean green smackdown machine". No one would dare pinch him.
Just a typical day around here....
Now lets see some other REAL lives out there.
